Manila Internet café robbed

Burglars ransacked before dawn Friday an Internet café of close to P200,000 worth of desktop computer sets in Manila. The thieves used a bolt cutter to break through the chained doors and destroyed the lock of Hub Session Internet Café along Blumentritt Street in Sampaloc before looting the computer shop. Senior Police Officer 3 Danilo Cinco, of the Manila Police District (MPD) theft and robbery section, said the break-in happened sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. Friday. Cinco said that after the thieves gained access into the shop, they took with them 11 pieces of computer processing units and 11 computer monitors, worth some P198,000. A witness saw two men loading the desktop computer sets in a closed van with no license plates. But before she could report this to the police, the men had fled with the electronic equipment.—Jeannette I. Andrade

Projects for Navotas residents launched

Unlike most birthday celebrators, Navotas Mayor John Reynald M. Tiangco chose to give rather than receive gifts on his 39th birth anniversary.        After a Mass attended by city government employees and his constituents, Tiangco announced his birthday gifts to his constituents. An initial number of 13 Navoteños were given a chance to attend seminars on how to start or expand their business and later apply for the Tulong Puhunan project of Navotaas Hanapbuhay Center, with cash loans. The mayor also announced the turnover of a new ambulance to the Navotas Health Department through the PDAF [Priority Assistance Development Fund] of his brother, Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco, two new garbage trucks to the City Environment and Natural Resources Office and launched a groundbreaking ceremony for a soon-to-rise medium-rise residential building for city residents. All regular, casual and contractual employees will receive additional cash benefits this December, higher than what was given last year, he added. The amount of P500,000 from Mayor Tiangco’s personal funds was also pledged to support the Navotas Scholarship Programs, through city treasurer Manuel T. Enriquez and DepEd Navotas Division Superintendent Dr. Nenita S. Rivera.

The Panganiban-Metro Manila Residents Association Inc., an organization of Catanduanes-born Bicolanos of Panganiban, Catanduanes province, who are  residents of  Metro Manila or Mega Manila, is inviting its members to attend a fun-filled annual Christmas party with big prizes awaiting the lucky winners in the raffle, at 7:30 Saturday night at Amoranto Sports Complex Daza Hall, on Don A. Achievement award for Las Piñas

The Las Piñas City Manpower Training Center has been cited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) as one of the best technical and vocational schools in the country. The LPCMTC received the Training Achievement Award from Tesda–NCR during the celebration of Trainees’ Day recently at Tesda Brick Plaza in Taguig City. Senator Chiz Escudero and Secretary Joel Villanueva, director general of Tesda, recognized the outstanding performance of LPCMTC in providing free vocational and technical training for the city residents, particularly the out-of-school youths and unemployed adult, for them to have effective and employable skills after three to six months of training.
