SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – A job caravan held at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Gym on Saturday (Feb. 9) drew skilled workers, including employees of the Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Philippines who have been laid off or are facing retrenchment after the shipbuilder filed for bankruptcy.
Around 25,000 jobs were offered at the job fair that lasted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for various government construction projects, under the administration’s “build, build, build” program.
Up for grabs were vacancies for construction workers, welders, carpenters, engineers, and administrative staff.
“Subic is happy to be part of this project to bring greater positive social impact to our people. We are committed to find every opportunity for the SBMA to make more jobs available and catalyse greater growth in Central Luzon and the rest of the country,” said Wilma Eisma, SBMA chairman and administrator, in a statement./lzb
