Constructed in 2010 and inaugurated in October 2013, the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union (TPLEx) expressway project spans 89.31 kilometers from Tarlac City to Rosario town in La Union province.
It has reduced travel time between its endpoints from 3.5 hours to one hour, benefiting about 20,000 vehicles daily.
The four-lane expressway is divided into three sections, with total project cost of P24.42 billion. Its last segment, from Pozorrubio, Pangasinan, to Rosario, is slated to be completed in June.
Last December, San Miguel Holdings Corp. obtained the original proponent status to extend TPLEx to San Juan, La Union. It has yet to hurdle the approval process of the National Economic and Development Authority.
The additional 54.4-km four-lane toll road will cost P23.95 billion and will be divided into three phases.
