Quake hits parts of Surigao del Norte, Visayas
MANILA, Philippines – A 5.9-magnitude earthquake jolted Surigao del Norte Friday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
In its earthquake bulletin, Phivolcs reported that the quake struck 28 kilometers southeast of General Luna, Surigao del Norte, at 7:55 p.m.
It was felt at Intensity V in Surigao City.
The temblor was recorded at Instrumental Intensity IV in Gingoog City and Instrumental Intensity III in Cagayan de Oro City, Borongan City and Cebu City, Instrumental Intensity II in Catbalogan City and Instrumental Intensity I in Lapu-Lapu City and Argao in Cebu, Kidapawan and Alabel, Sarangani.
The earthquake had a depth of 19 kilometers and was of tectonic origin.
Phivolcs warned of possible aftershocks. /gsg
