Man shot dead by store owner after buying noodles in Quezon

LUCENA CITY – A man who was buying noodles was killed by the store owner in Gumaca town in Quezon province shortly before midnight on Sunday, police said.

Senior Supt. Osmundo de Guzman, Quezon police director, said the victim, Boyet San Buenaventura, 37, was buying noodles at a store being manned by suspect Jessie Mark Batugon, 19, in Barangay (village) Progreso at around 10:30 p.m.

In the course of the transaction, the victim confronted Batugon whom he accused of allegedly stealing his charcoals, De Guzman said.

Irked by the accusation, the suspect pulled out a homemade caliber .22 revolver and shot the victim who was then turning his back to leave the store.

The victim sustained a bullet wound in the nape and died while being taken to San Diego Hospital.

Police recovered the firearm used in the killing but the suspect had escaped and remains at large as of Monday noon. /je
