Maynilad opens P1.7-B sewage treatment plant

Maynilad Water Services has formally opened the P1.7-billion Parañaque Water Reclamation Facility in San Dionisio, Parañaque City, its largest sewage treatment plant (STP) in terms of processing capacity.

The new STP, which will be vital to the cleanup of Manila Bay, will raise Parañaque City’s compliance rate in terms of sewer connections to 92 percent.

Jica-funded

The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) lauded the completion of the facility, which was funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica).

“We are happy with the completion of this modern water reclamation facility three years after it was started,” said MWSS Administrator Reynaldo Velasco.

Maynilad president Ramoncito Fernandez said Maynilad would invest P26.4 billion in the next five years to build new STPs and lay more sewer lines.

The new facilities will have a combined treatment capacity of 320 million liters per day, he said.
