2 killed, 1 hurt in Pangasinan road mishaps

DAGUPAN CITY — Two persons were killed while another was injured in two separate road crashes in Pangasinan on Saturday night, police said.

In Bayambang town, Melanio Martinez, 40, died while being treated in a hospital for injuries he suffered after his motorcycle collided into another motorcycle, said PO3 Ryan Lerma, Bayambang police investigator.

Martinez was driving on the northbound lane of the San Carlos-Basista-Bayambang road at about 11:40 p.m. when a speeding motorcycle on the opposite lane suddenly swerved and hit him.

Martinez’s back rider, Jeffrey De Guzman, 24, suffered injuries after he was thrown off the motorcycle.

Lerma said that the riders in the other motorcycle, Gerald Ebron, 32, and his back rider Jayromar Mones, 24, were not hurt.

He also said all riders were drunk and did not wear protective helmets.

In Umingan town, junk shop owner Mario Macanas, 56, was killed after the motorcycle he was driving rear-ended a hand tractor-drawn trailer at about 7:50 p.m. at Barangay Maseil-seil. /je
