Subic man nabbed for election gun ban violation

SUBIC, Zambales – A man, carrying loaded weapons, was arrested at a Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoint on Friday night (Feb. 1) along the national highway of Barangay (village) Mangan-vaca here.

Diosdado Cervantes, 36, welder, and a resident of Sitio Baltao, Barangay Calapandayan, was driving a motorcycle while concealing a caliber .45 handgun with 9-mm firearm, both with magazines filled with live ammunition.

The police did not say whether Cervantes had tried to explain why he was heavily armed as he roamed the streets.

He faces charges for violating gun laws and the Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines. Joanna Rose Aglibot/lzb
