Motorcycle ‘thief’ slain in Cavite, suspect dead in Batangas checkpoint
SAN PEDRO CITY — Two people were killed in separate police shootouts in Cavite and Batangas provinces, early on Friday.
In Batangas, a police report said Richard Pilapil was on board his motorcycle when flagged down at a checkpoint in Barangay (village) Poblacion in Malvar town around 2 a.m.
Police were then conducting road inspections in connection to the election gun ban.
Instead of yielding, the suspect drove past the law enforcers prompting a police chase. Police said Pilapil opened fire, forcing them to shoot back.
The suspect suffered from multiple bullet wounds and died instantly.
About the same time in Indang, Cavite, a still unidentified man was killed in a police shootout in Barangay Kayquit 3.
The police said they were conducting a follow-up operation into an earlier theft of a motorcycle when they cornered the suspected thief.
The police were about to arrest him when the man fired his gun but missed. Law enforcers returned fire and killed him. The police recovered a .38-caliber gun. Maricar Cinco/lzb
