MANILA, Philippines — The prices of shabu (crystal meth) have increased from P1,200 per gram to P3,500 per gram in Metro Manila, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Aaron Aquino said on Thursday.
“Tumaas na nga yung shabu. Most likely ‘yung 1.6 tons [of shabu] na yun ubos na yun,” Aquino said in a press conference on Thursday referring to the shabu that was smuggled into the country through magnetic lifters.
“It is about P3,500 per gram from P1,200 per gram,” Aquino added.
Aquino said shabu prices in the streets have increased because of low supply.
While the average price of shabu is P3,500 per gram, Aquino said shabu was more expenses in some places such as in Davao City.
“Hindi lahat pare-pareho may P3,500. Meron pa rin P6,800 per gram and average is still the same in Davao it’s P11,000 meron pa nga P15,000 per gram pero average is about P3,500,” Aquino said.
Earlier, PDEA and the Bureau of Customs forged a memorandum of agreement to conduct joint operations against illegal drugs. /muf
