Cop survives attack by riding-in-tandem in Zamboanga Sibugay

Two Pangasinan cops wounded in Rizal Day brawl

MANILA, Philippines – A police officer was wounded after being shot by riding-in-tandem gunmen in Zamboanga Sibugay, Wednesday night.

The police identified the victim as Inspector Yashier Abdulla Sarikin of the Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office.

Initial investigation showed that Sarikin had just arrived at his apartment in Purok Eloisa in Ipil town when two men on a motorcycle approached his car at about 8 p.m.

The backrider got off, walked up to Sarikin and fired several shots.

Sarikin managed to return fire which prompted the suspects to flee.

The lawman was rushed to a hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds in the right eyebrow and left finger.

Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Bernard Banac said the motive for the attack was still being determined. /cbb
