Eliminated UC Webmasters end PCCL campaign with victory over finals-bound SSC Stags

The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters were not going back home empty-handed as they walloped the finals-bound San Sebastian Stags, 92-71, in their concluding semifinal game of the 2011 Philippine Collegiate Champions League yesterday at the Arena in San Juan City.

The Webmasters were firing on all cylinders and were especially deadly from beyond the three-point arc with Edward Pao and Robinson Mohammad combining for 13 treys between them.

Pao had 25 points, eight rebounds, three assists and four steals and had seven trifectas.

Pao had back-to-back treys that anchored an 11-0 run that bridged the third and fourth periods that broke the game wide open in their favor.

Mohammad had six three-point bombs, with three coming in the final canto that helped the Webmasters lead by as many as 24, 87-63. All in all, the Webmasters made 16 three-pointers.

The win was the first for a Cebuano team since the University of the Visayas Green Lancers won over STI in the 2007 semifinals of the PCCL.

UC finished with a 1-2 (win-loss) record while San Sebastian ended the round with a 2-1 mark.

In spite of the loss, the Stags are assured of a seat in the finals and are armed with a twice-to-beat advantage.

The Stags will await the winner of the game today between San Beda and Ateneo de Manila.
