MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck off the coast of Eastern Samar, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs traced the quake’s epicenter at 59 kilometers northeast of Hernani in Eastern Samar.
The earthquake which hit the area at around 11:27 a.m., was of tectonic origin and was 20 kilometers deep.
Palo, Leyte felt the quake at Intensity II, Phivolcs added.
Phivolcs said no damages and aftershocks could be expected from the earthquake. /muf
