MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday said he would fire two officials of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) over an “application” that has been delayed for years.

“May tanggalin ako dalawa sa DAR, an application that was long delayed, two years sa opisina nila. That is corruption to me, para magbalik-balik ‘yung aplikante. Two years?” Duterte told reporters in an ambush interview after the groundbreaking of a hospital in Malabon City.

“I will ask them to resign or else I will file charges against them, and I will see to it that they will get their comeuppance,” he added.

The President did not name the officials.

“Wala pa pero from the looks of it, the name is immaterial. When you have papers with you, basta pabalik-balikin mo ‘yung tao, kaya sabi ko sa Pilipino, there’s an 8888, i-text lang ninyo, pinapabalik-balik ako dito sa, yung assessment or business permit, and I will ask,” he added. /je
