Bulacan cops nab armed man at Comelec checkpoint

CITY OF SAN JOSE DEL MONTE, BULACAN——Police arrested an armed man who tried to escape after he was flagged down at a Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoint in Barangay (village) Sto. Cristo here on Friday morning.

Senior Supt. Chito Bersaluna, Bulacan police director, said Jerwin Nogueras, 26, was on board his black Honda Wave motorcycle when police tried to stop him at the checkpoint.

The suspect sped away but was later arrested. Seized from him was a .357-revolver (Magnum Smith and Wesson).

Comelec checkpoints are set up nationwide to enforce a gun ban during the election period. Carmela Reyes-Estrope/lzb
