Malacañang on Thursday pressed Congress to amend the charter of the government television network to allow it to earn from commercial revenues and make it a sustainable venture.

Secretary Herminio Coloma, the head of the Presidential Communications Operations Office, made the remarks after the issue of the delayed release of the 13th month pay and P5,000 cash gift of People’s Television employees was raised on Thursday’s news briefing in Malacañang.

“We are working for the release of funds,” Coloma said in a text message sent to reporters after the briefing.

“We are also working with Congress to amend the PTV charter so that fresh capital may be infused and network will be allowed to earn commercial revenues on a self-sustaining basis,” he added.

President Benigno Aquino III recently announced that the 13th month pay and P5,000 cash gift should have already been distributed from November 15 to November 30.
