MANILA, Philippines — Taipan Henry Sy Sr. — the country’s wealthiest man — will be laid to rest on Thursday.
In a post on its official Twitter page, SM Supermalls announced on Thursday that the interment of Sy would take place on Thursday at the Heritage Park in Taguig City.
Sy’s family requested that “all those whose lives he touched to pray for the eternal repose of his soul.”
Memorial contribution may be sent to Sy’s scholarship program through SM Foundation, Inc. in place of flowers, the announcement also read.

Sy, 94, died “peacefully in his sleep” last Saturday, Jan. 19.

To honor the mall magnate, the iconic globe of SM Mall of Asia in Pasay radiated with colorful lights, with the message “Thank You, Tatang.”
The SM group also conveyed the same message on its social media accounts.
In 1946, Sy opened a small shoe store in Manila that eventually grew into a retail empire with 72 shopping malls that serves 3.5 million customers a day. /cbb
