Cops nab man for illegal firearms, drug peddling in Pasig City

MANILA, Philippines — Policemen have seized firearms, live ammunition, and illegal drugs from a 35-year-old man in Pasig City on Tuesday evening.

The Eastern Police District (EPD) identified the suspect as Jeffrey Javier or alias “Jeff”, a native of Bayambang, Pangasinan.

According to police, members of EPD’s Special Operations Unit and Intelligence Unit as well as the Pasig City Police Station implemented the search warrant against Javier around 6:35 p.m. along A. Policarpio St., Brgy. San Joaquin in Pasig City.

The search warrant was issued by Pasig Regional Trial Court Branch 152.

Operatives initially seized from the suspect a COLT MK IV, and .45 caliber gun (Serial No. 298337) with inserted loaded magazine, which were all found to be unlicensed.

For this, he was charged with illegal possession of firearms and for violating the prevailing election gun ban. The gun ban has been in effect since January 13 for the May midterm elections.

Incidentally during the search, police also discovered from Javier 30 pieces of plastic sachets allegedly containing 5.61 grams of shabu. Authorities said the seized illegal drugs have an estimated street value of P16,000.

The suspect, according to police, was consequently found to be also an alleged pusher, supposedly peddling drugs in Brgy. Ususan in Taguig City.

For this, Javier would likewise be charged for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. /kga
