MANILA, Philippines — Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo was rushed to the hospital hours after he was arrested for alleged illegal possession of firearms.
Baldo experienced hyperventilation while inside his detention cell and his blood pressure shot up Tuesday night, Senior Supt. Arnold Ardiente, chief of the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Bicol, told INQUIRER.net.
Ardiente said Baldo claimed to have a history of asthma.
The mayor was supposed to undergo inquest proceedings on Wednesday but the police said they were not sure if the doctors would allow Baldo to leave the hospital, a report from Radyo INQUIRER said.
Baldo is the main suspect in the assassination of AKO Bicol Party-list Rep. Rodel Botacabe and his police escort last December.
The CIDG arrested the mayor Tuesday after they found loose firearms and bullets inside his compound in Barangay Tagas in Daraga, Albay.
Baldo is now at the UST Hospital in Legazpi City, Ardiente said. /cbb
