TALAVERA, NUEVA ECIJA—A man was killed in a shootout with policemen in Barangay (village) Collado here on Monday evening.
Ferdinand Viernes fired at responding policemen while he was being arrested at 11: 50 p.m., said Supt. Alexie Desamito, the town’s police chief.
Desamito said a concerned citizen reported that Viernes and his three companions were involved in the indiscriminate firing of a pistol at a fishpond area in their village about 8:30 p.m.
Viernes resisted arrest and fired shots at the policemen but was killed in the gunfight.
Police immediately arrested his companions identified as Emmanuel Viernes, Crisanto Dimaya and Mar Dimaya.
