Man raising funds to settle son’s hospital bill

Rham Nigel Rodriguez

Ramelle Rodriguez’s plan to finish college in 2016 was derailed when his only child, Rham Nigel, was diagnosed with pre-B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

The ailment is an aggressive type of leukemia in which too many B-cell lymphoblasts are found in the bone marrow and blood.

The 27-year-old Rodriguez who works as a tricycle driver was just a year away from finishing his studies at the Philippine College of Criminology.

In November, the family incurred a hospital bill of P2 million when Rham Nigel underwent a bone marrow transplant at St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City in Taguig City.

“We were told by doctors that it is the only hospital in the country equipped with the facility to carry out the operation,” said Rodriguez who was the bone marrow donor.

Because of their meager means, he and his partner, Romina Amatorio, raised funds for the operation by selling online specially printed clothes, shoes and tumblers.

They eventually managed to earn enough to reduce their hospital bill to just P300,000.

“We are appealing for your help. The balance is still big and our son who is now 7 years old will need to take maintenance medicines for life,” he said.

Those who would like to know more about Rham Nigel’s condition may call Amatorio at 0929-3296776. Donations can be deposited in Ramelle Rodriguez’s BPI account (# 4349 0908 19).
