One 16-year-old girl in Ohio, United States decided that the best way to get back at her father for confiscating her phone was to call the authorities and report him for theft.

South Euclid Police Department immediately responded to the report on Jan. 12, as per its official Facebook page on Jan. 13. Imagine the police officers’ surprise when, upon talking to the father, they learned that the gadget was taken away to discipline the teenager.

Despite her father explaining the situation, the teenager remained firm in her belief that her father should be charged with theft. She also insisted that she was “entitled” to her phone.

Her reasoning, however, did not sit well with the police officers who took her father’s side. They explained that having a cellphone under the age of 18 is considered a “privilege” and not a “right,” contrary to what the teen thinks.

The authorities then advised the 16-year-old to follow her father in order for her phone to be returned. The police report did not state whether the teenager heeded the officers’ advice. However, no charges were filed, as per a WOMC report on Jan. 15. JB
