MANILA, Philippines – Forty-eight percent of Filipinos are expecting President Rodrigo Duterte to fulfill all of his promises, a December 2018 Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showed.
In a survey conducted from Dec. 16 to 18, SWS said 13 percent Filipinos said Duterte can fulfill “all or nearly all” of his promises while 35 percent said he can fulfill “most of his promises.”
This was two points higher than results of the March 2018 survey wherein 46 percent believed the President can fulfill his promises.
The SWS added that last December’s survey showed that 46 percent of respondents said Duterte can fulfill only a few of his promises and six percent said he can fulfill “none or almost none” of his promises.
The SWS survey likewise showed that expectations from Duterte’s promises increased in the Visayas and Balance Luzon.
In the Visayas, the Filipinos’ expectations rose by 8 points from 38 percent in March 2018 to 46 percent in December 2018.
In Balance Luzon, it rose by 5 points from 44 percent in March to 49 percent in December.
Meanwhile, the rating dropped by 5 points in Mindanao, from 60 percent in March to 55 percent in December 2018.
The survey also cited the survey results of former Philippine presidents Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Benigno C. Aquino III.
In September 2001, 19 percent of Filipinos expected Arroyo to fulfill all of her promises with 64 percent expected Arroyo to fulfill a few of her promises while 16 percent expected none.
In September 2010, 44 percent of Filipinos expected Aquino to fulfill all of his promises while 50 percent expected a few and four percent expected that none of his promises will be fulfilled.
(In your opinion, how many of the promises of Pres. Rody Duterte can be fulfilled? All or nearly all of the promises?, Most of the promises?, A few of the promises?, Almost none or none of the promises?)”
The survey interviewed 1,440 adults aged 18 years old and above nationwide.
360 were interviewed in Luzon, Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao.
The survey had a sampling error margin of ±2.6% for national percentages and ±5% each for Luzon, Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao./gsg
