MANILA, Philippines–A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck off Davao Region at 6:49 p.m. Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the quake that occurred 446 kilometers southeast of Sarangani province at a depth of 48 kilometers.
Earlier, a strong magnitude 6 earthquake shook a large area of Mindanao at 4:03 a.m. Wednesday.
The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
