Zubiri: Senators accept amendments to Road Board abolition bill

MANILA, Philippines — The proposed amendments to the bill seeking to abolish the Road Board have been accepted by the Senate, Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri revealed Wednesday.

On Tuesday night, congressional leaders have agreed to introduce only “short and simple” amendments to the Road Board abolition bill.

Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto and Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri met with House Majority Leader Rolando Andaya Tuesday night to discuss the amendments.

Asked whether senators accepted the amendments to the Road Board abolition bill, Zubiri answered in the affirmative.

“Yes, Senator Ralph and I have presented and they (senators) all accepted,” Zubiri told reporters in a Viber message.

Zubiri earlier disclosed the following amendments that they will propose:

  1. Abolition of the Road Board
  2. All monies collected from the road user’s tax will be remitted to the National Treasury
  3. The fund would be used for construction, repair, and rehab of roads, bridges and road drainage would be included in the annual General Appropriations Act /muf
