133 foreigners barred from PH in 2018 for being rude
A total of 133 foreign nationals were barred last year from the country for being rude and disrespectful to Bureau of Immigration (BI) officers.
In a report to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, BI Port Operations Division chief Grifton Medina said the figure was slightly higher compared to 129 in 2017.
“The entry and stay of foreigners in the country is only a privilege, not a right,” Medina said. “Aliens are not allowed to verbally abuse or disrespect our immigration officers.”
BI records showed that Chinese nationals topped the list of excluded nationals at 37.
In second place were Americans with 25 and Koreans, 23.
“They were also placed in our immigration blacklist of undesirable aliens, thus, they are banned from reentering the country,” Medina added.
Immigration spokesperson Dana Sandoval said the BI had been strictly implementing a policy of disallowing the entry of aliens who behave arrogantly against immigration officers, based on a memorandum order issued by then Immigration chief Andrea Domingo on March 29, 2001. —Tina G. Santos
Cop’s house inside police camp not spared by burglar
Police are investigating a burglary reported at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City, the headquarters of the National Capital Region Police Office.
According to a report, when PO3 Roy Guiyab and his family came home at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, they found that someone had broken into their unit in Building F of the Southern Police District (SPD) quarters.
“Personal belongings inside the bedrooms [were] in disarray” while the padlock on a bedside drawer had been destroyed, Guiyab told the police.
Aside from his 9mm Glock pistol, a gold necklace and P8,000 in cash were also stolen. The burglar, who remained unidentified, reportedly entered the unit by breaking a window in the bedroom.
At that time, the victims were at a nearby shopping mall.
Guiyab is assigned at the District Investigation and Detective Management Division of the SPD. —Matthew Reysio-Cruz
