Mexican boxers show ringmanship in public sparring

MEXICAN boxers Miguel Angel Mendoza and Marcos Cardenas gave boxing fans a glimpse of what to expect this Saturday in a public workout yesterday afternoon at the Events Center of SM Cebu.

Cardenas and Mendoza took turns shadow boxing on stage in front of an appreciative crowd. Providing added entertainment were the dance numbers provided by the sexy KO girls. Fans also got a chance to win free tickets during the Q and A portion of the event.

The two boxers also gamely posed for pictures with the fans after their workout.

The unbeaten Mendoza, who has knocked out all 17 opponents with one draw, will face Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista (31W-2L, 23 KO’s) of the ALA gym for the IBF International featherweight title at the Hoops Dome in Lapulapu City. This will be Bautista’s first defense of the title he won from another Mexican, Heriberto Ruiz, last June by seventh round technical decision.

Cardenas (19W-0L-1D, 12 KO’s) will face ALA boxer Genesis Servania (15W-0L, 5 KO’s), in a battle of two young unbeaten prospects.

Also set to see action are OPBF Flyweight champion Rocky Fuentes of Mambaling, Cebu who will fight Thailand’s Lookdiaw Tor Buamas in a non-title bout and Philippine Jr.welterweight champion Romeo Jakosalem who will vie for the vacant OPBF Jr.welterweight title against Pan Soo Kim of South Korea.  /Correspsondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
