MANILA, Philippines–A 4.7 earthquake shook a large area of Ilocos Region Saturday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injury from the tremor that struck 13 kilometers southwest of Laoag City at 9:20 p.m. It was detected at a depth of 28 kilometers.
It was felt at Intensity IV in Paoay, Banna, and Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; and in Sinait, Ilocos Sur.
Intensity III was reported in Bacarra, Pinili, Pagudpud, and Pasuquin in Ilocos Norte; and Santa in Ilocos Sur.
The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
