Duterte declares every last Monday of January as special working holiday

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has declared the last Monday of January every year as a special working holiday as a National Bible Day.

Duterte signed Republic Act 11163 on December 20, 2018.

The law states that “it is the policy of the state that the government shall aid and encourage development of the moral character and spiritual foundation of the Filipino people.”

“As a predominantly Christian nation and the largest Christian nation in the Asia Pacific,” the new law “recognizes the value of the Holy Bible as the core of Christian faith.”/je
