A retired policeman was shot dead while acting as a basketball referee in Marikina City on Sunday.
A report to Senior Supt. Roger Quesada, city police chief, identified the victim as Elmer Corbe, 52. He held the rank of inspector before he retired in July 2017.
A witness said that at 6:45 p.m. on Sunday, the victim was refereeing a basketball game just outside his house on Cadena de Amor Street at Barangay Industrial Valley Complex when two men shot him.
The gunmen then fled on a motorcycle while Corbe was rushed to Marikina Doctors Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
According to his family, Corbe was with the Marikina City Police Station before he was transferred to the Quezon City Police District where he was promoted to inspector.
He also served in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao until his retirement.
Senior Insp. Darius Agmaliw, police investigation chief, said the motive for Corbe’s killing had yet to be determined.
