MANILA, Philippines — Senator Sherwin Gatchalian urged the Philippine National Police (PNP) to be “cautious” about launching profiling operations on teachers associated with the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT).
“I urge the Philippine National Police to be cautious about launching profiling operations targeting left-leaning teachers,” Gatchalian said in a statement on Monday.
“I am concerned that targeting teachers could potentially create a negative learning environment for students,” he added.
The senator’s statement came after reports were received by the ACT that police officers were supposedly conducting an inventory in Manila and other provinces of teachers who are alleged members of the union.

With this, Gatchalian reminded the government that “fostering a safe and secure working environment” for teachers is “essential to ensuring that our children will enjoy a safe and secure learning environment at school.”
