MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Monday that it would release the official list of candidates for the May 2019 midterm elections before January 23.
Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez made the disclosure as he said that the target for printing of ballots for the upcoming polls was the third week of January.
“The printing of the ballot is expected to start by the third week of January, possibly around January 23, 24, or 25,” Jimenez said in an interview with ABS CBN News Channel.
“So we expect that the list will be out before those dates,” he added.
Jimenez also said that those who would not be part in the list of candidates would also not be included in the ballots.
The Comelec initial target date for the release of the list was last Dec. 15, but was put on hold as the commission resolved the disqualification cases of some candidates.
The 2019 midterm elections have been set for May 13. /cbb
