Suspected ‘shabu’ pusher slain, 2 nabbed in Quezon buy-busts

LUCENA CITY – A suspected drug pusher was slain and two others were arrested in separate buy-bust operations in the cities of Lucena and Tayabas in Quezon province on Friday.

Anti-illegal drugs operatives killed tricycle driver Jayson Francial, 33, after he reportedly shot but failed to hit a policeman who was about to arrest him for selling “shabu” (crystal meth) in Barangay (village) Talao-Talao around 2:30 p.m. , Senior Supt. Osmundo de Guzman, Quezon police chief, said in a report.

Police found six sachets of shabu weighing a total of 1.2 grams with an estimated Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) value of P2,220 and a caliber .38 gun from Francial.

In Tayabas City, a local drug enforcement unit collared Paulo Neil Alvarez, 40, and Eduardo Vargas, 39, in another buy-bust in Barangay Lawigui around 10:45 p.m.

Authorities seized 20 sachets of shabu weighing a total of 52.33 grams with an estimated DDB value of P96,8108.

The confiscated shabu is worth P235,485 in the street market at P4,500 a gram.
