Gov’t work, classes in Manila suspended on January 9 for Traslacion

MANILA, Philippines — The local government of Manila announced on Friday the suspension of  classes in both public and private schools in the city on January 9, Wednesday, to give way for the Traslacion of the Black Nazarene.

Work in government offices were also declared suspended by the local government, although those involved in the preparations for the Traslacion will still have to report for work, according to Manila City Administrator Ericson Acovendaz.

Acovendaz said the suspension of classes and work in Manila was ordered by Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada through Executive Order No. 1.

The Traslacion or the procession of the life-size image of the Black Nazarene  from the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park to the Quiapo Church is the highlight of the Feast of the Black Nazarene which is celebrated every Jan. 9.  /muf
