Aquino to name new military chief next Monday
MANILA, Philippines—President Benigno Aquino III said Wednesday he will announce his choice for the next chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines on Dec.12, a day before outgoing AFP Chief Gen. Eduardo Oban Jr. retires.
“I will announce it on Dec.12,” President Aquino told reporters after the conferment of awards for this year’s most outstanding “Lupong Tagapamayapa” or barangay courts in the country.
The President said he had been mulling over the appointment of the new AFP chief “for a month or a month-and-a-half.”
Oban has been head of the Armed Forces for only nine months.
