MANILA, Philippines — A Spanish national was arrested for damaging a car and assaulting a security guard in a condominium parking lot in Makati City early Tuesday.

The Makati City Police Station identified the suspect as Jairo Ruiz Ibanez, a resident of Purok 5 General Luna, Siargao, Surigao del Norte.

Based on initial investigation, Ibanez was seen smashing his motorcycle helmet and breaking the car window of Ed Morales, a tenant of the Makati Prime Tower Suites, at the 2nd-floor parking lot of the building.

According to the police report, the security guard of the building, Allaniel Mayangao, intervened and tried to calm the suspect. However, Ibanez allegedly punched Mayangao and threw a hollow block at his back.

This prompted Mayangao and his colleagues to call the village-based law enforcers, or the Bantay Bayan of Barangay Poblacion, for assistance.

Upon the arrival of the Bantay Bayan at the location of the incident, Ibanez allegedly resisted arrest but was later subdued and brought to the Makati CPS.

Officials of Barangay Poblacion referred the suspect and the complainants–Morales and Mayangao–to the police station for possible filing of malicious mischief, alarm and scandal, assault and resisting arrest charges.

The case was then referred to the station’s Criminal Investigation Department for proper disposition, the police noted. /jpv
