2 soldiers killed, 2 others hurt in shooting inside Basilan detachment

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Two soldiers were killed while two others were wounded in a shooting incident inside the Kapatagan Grande Detachment Patrol Base of the 15th Company in Isabela City, Basilan province on New Year’s Eve.

Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Licup, regional director of the Police Regional Office 9 (PRO9), said Corporal Sali Tagayan, a cadre, and CAA Abdul Ismael, a member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu), were killed when one of their militia forces ran amok around 6 p.m. on Monday.

Tagayan and Ismael were reportedly on duty at the detachment in Barangay Kapatagan Grande when their colleague, Cafgu member Faisal Alam  ran amok and shot them using his M16 riffle and escaped.

Two other Cafgu members, Alejandro Enriquez and Sahadain Indaman Mustamad, were wounded.

Isabela City police are now hunting Alam and are looking into the cause of his sudden rage. /ee
