MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District (MPD) announced on Monday the closure of some roads and rerouting of traffic to make way for the Blessed Virgin Mary Procession.
The procession will start from the Palaza Miranda in Quiapo at 5 p.m. on Tuesday (January 1) and will end back to Quiapo Church.
In a traffic advisory, the Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit advised motorists to observe the following road closures:
- Southbound lane of Quezon Blvd. (Quiapo), from A. Mendoza/Fugoso to Plaza Miranda
- Eastbound lane of CM Recto Ave. from Rizal Ave. to S.H. Loyola St.
- Westbound lane of España Boulevard from P. Campa to Lerma St.
The traffic enforcement unit also suggested alternative routes for motorists:
- All vehicles coming from España Blvd. intending to proceed to Roxas Blvd./South Pier Zone/Taft Avenue shall turn right to P. Campa, straight to Fugoso St., to point of destination.
- All vehicles intending to utilize Quezon Blvd. coming from A. Mendoza St. shall turn right to Fugoso, left to Rizal Ave. to point of destination.
- All vehicles utilizing eastbound lane of CM Recto coming from Divisoria shall turn right to Rizal Avenue to point of destination.
- All vehicles utilizing S.H. Loyola St., coming from Balic-Balic area going to Quiapo shall turn right to CM Recto Avenue to point of destination.
However, it said that the closure and opening of affected roads shall depend on the actual traffic condition on the day of the procession. /jpv
