ARMM gov’t calls for a thorough probe of Cotabato mall blast

DAVAO CITY — An official of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) is urging authorities to conduct a thorough probe of the mall blast in Cotabato City on Monday that killed two and wounded a scores of civilians.

“We urge investigators and all civilians not to be caught up in the chaos surrounding this terrorist act. We cannot afford to be divisive at this moment. Only by melding together can we bring about peace and justice,” ARMM Gov. Mujiv Hataman said on Monday evening.

“We are irrevocably grieved about the casualties incurred, thoroughly condemn this act, and call for a thorough investigation. We need to make sure acts like these never happen again, and that the perpetrator is brought to justice,” Hataman added.

Authorities said that what went off outside the South Seas Mall was an improvised explosive device believed to be the handiwork of ISIS militants.

Hataman has appealed to the people of Cotabato to be united amid the bombing incident and thwart any moves that would spoil peace in the city.

“What we need is to be composed, to redouble our efforts, and to hold on to our dream of peace in the region. We cannot be divided on this front,” he said.

“We are united in praying for the families and their loved ones who have passed away, as well as those who have been injured and their families. Evil acts like these will be punished in this world and the next, while all good deeds will be rewarded. Let us remember the good people of Cotabato for the sake of our community,” Hataman added. /ee
