Woman killed in Davao-Cotabato highway road accident

MATANAO, DAVAO DEL SUR — Another woman was killed crossing the national highway in Barangay Sinawilan here on Sunday, the latest in a series of road accidents along the Davao-Cotabato highway.

Senior Insp. Renato Uy, chief of Matanao police, on Monday said Archimedes Polangcos, 73, a resident of the place, was crossing the highway at 6:15 p.m. on Sunday when hit by a speeding tricycle heading for Digos City.

Polangcos suffered serious injury in the head and was brought to the St. Benedict Medical Hospital in nearby Barangay Sinaragan in Matanao town, but the attending physician declared her dead at 6:51 p.m..

Uy said the vehicle involved also incurred a lot of damage; its driver temporarily held at the Matanao police to answer appropriate charges in court.

Despite a number of accidents along the Davao-Cotabato highway, no road warning sign or pedestrian lanes had been put up along the road. Local authorities has also not passed any law regulating the speed limit of vehicles. /ee
