NCRPO urges public to report indiscriminate firing on New Year’s Eve

MANILA, Philippines — National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Guillermo Eleazar has urged the public to report incidents of indiscriminate firing and other violations of ordinances in Metro Manila during the New Year’s Eve celebration.

Eleazar urged those who will spot violators to report the incidents to the nearest police stations, as he emphasized the danger of stray bullets.

“Kapag meron kayong na-obserbahan mamaya na mga nag-iinom sa mga areas ninyo tapos may nakasukbit na baril, o meron kayong nakitang nagpaputok ng baril, or indiscriminate firing, ‘yung talagang harapan ay nagpapaputok ng mga bawal na paputok, ipagbigay alam po sa atin sa ating police station,” he told Radyo Inquirer on Monday.

(If there is someone drinking in a public place with a gun tucked on their waist, or if you see someone indiscriminately firing, or those using illegal firecrackers, you should report these to our police stations.)

Eleazar assured that police will immediately respond to these reports.

According to Eleazar, he does not expect police personnel indiscriminately firing during the New Year’s Eve celebration.

“More on the civilians and nakikita kong problema [on indiscriminately firing] (Indiscriminate firing is more on the civilians),” he told INQUIRER.net.

Eleazar also urged the public to report to police those found using illegal firecrackers, as he also reminded them to only use regulated firecrackers in designated firecracker zones in their barangays (villages).  /muf
