MANILA, Philippines — The northeast monsoon or “amihan” is expected to bring cloudy skies and rain over parts of the country, the weather bureau said Monday.
The Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region and Central Luzon will have cloudy skies with light rain due to the northeast monsoon, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Pagasa said the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, would experience improved weather despite expected isolated light rain, while the Visayas and Mindanao would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with localized thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, Pagasa said Albay, Sorsogon and Masbate would experience moderate to heavy rain within the next one or two hours.
In its thunderstorm advisory, the weather bureau said lightning and strong winds due to thunderstorms are also expected over the said areas.

On New Year’s Day, Cagayan Valley and Cordillera will remain cloudy with light rains due to the northeast monsoon.
The rest of the country, however, will have fair weather conditions except for some isolated rainshowers. /cbb
