Landslide kills father, son in Camarines Sur town

LEGAZPI CITY–A father and his son died after being buried in a landslide triggered by heavy rains brought about by tropical depression “Usman” in Lagonoy town, Camarines Sur on Saturday.

Charles Las Penas, 51, married; and his 11-year-old son Charles Jr., died when soil and debris from a landslide fell on them while sleeping inside their house in Barangay Guibahoy at around 2 a.m., said Chief Insp. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, spokesperson of the Bicol police.

Calubaquib said large volume of loose soil and rocks cascaded and covered almost the entire house of the victims located at the mountain slope.

Members of the rescue and retrieval team were able to recover the bodies of the victims and were brought to the town hall for documentation purposes. /jpv
