MANILA, Philippines — Portions of the Roxas Boulevard in Manila will be closed to vehicles on Sunday, Dec. 30, for the 122nd anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal.
The northbound and southbound lanes from Katigbak Drive to TM Kalaw will be closed to motorists starting 7 a.m., according to an advisory from the Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit (MDTEU) issued on Saturday.
However, the MDTEU said Katigbak Drive, Independence Road, and South Drive will be opened to vehicular traffic if needed.
Motorists are advised by the MDTEU to take the following alternative routes:
Vehicles travelling north shall turn right on TM Kalaw, left on Ma. Orosa to point of destination
Southbound light vehicles coming from Delpan Bridge-Pier Zone shall turn left on P. Burgos, right on Ma. Orosa to point of destination.
All trailer trucks or heavy vehicles coming from Delpan Bridge-Pier Zone shall turn left to P. Burgos, straight to Finance Road-Ayala Boulevard, right to San Marcelino to point of destination.
Vehicles coming from three bridges (McArthur, Jones, and Quezon bridge) intending to use the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard from P. Burgos shall take Round Table, take Ma. Orosa or use Taft Avenue to point of destination.
On Dec. 30, the nation will commemorate the 122nd death anniversary of the country’s national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal who was was executed by firing squad at Bagumbayan (now Rizal Park) in 1896. /muf
