HAGONOY, Davao del Sur—A man who was hit by a pick-up truck while crossing the highway here was declared dead on arrival by doctors at the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital in Digos City at 3:20 p.m. on Thursday.
Senior Insp. Gil Arobo, chief of police on Friday, said Bobby Gonzales Albarracin, 49, was crossing the national highway when he was hit by a black Nissan Navara pick-up truck on its way to Davao City.
The victim, who was thrown into the pavement, was immediately brought to the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital but died upon arrival at the emergency room.
Arobo said the driver and the vehicle were taken into police custody as charges were being prepared for filing.
Despite the increasing number of road accidents noted by the police traffic unit here, no sufficient warning sign has been installed to warn the motorists when they cruise along this accident-prone area.
Last week, a tricycle driver and a passenger died when the tricycle they were boarding bumped into a speeding fish delivery truck in the same area.
A widower also died when hit by a Mitsubishi Pajero while crossing the same highway on December 17.
No speed limit has been observed in the area. /jpv
