MANILA, Philippines — A “hitchhiking” man died after falling from the truck he was riding and ran over by its wheels on Thursday in Ermita, Manila.
According to the report by the Manila Police District (MPD), the unidentified man was estimated to be between 25 to 30 years old with a height of about 5’0 to 5’3.
The victim, the MPD noted, fell off a trailer truck which eventually ran him over along Finance Road in Manila.
In the report, a 39-year-old Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) sweeper named Tohamie Inding, who witnessed the accident, told investigators that he last saw the victim riding near the air dam of the truck while it was traversing westward and making a U-turn along Finance Road.
The victim subsequently fell from the truck, rolled on the pavement, and was ran over by the vehicle, killing him instantly, Inding said.
Authorities said that the severed body of the unidentified man was taken to a funeral parlor for autopsy and safekeeping.
Meanwhile, the MPD said that its Traffic Enforcement Unit is still trying to identify the victim considering that no identification card was retrieved from his possession.
For further investigation and proper documentation of the case, the driver of the truck is now in the custody of the police.
