Jeepney dispatcher killed; security guard shoots, injures boy

A JEEPNEY dispatcher was shot dead while a 15-year-old boy was critically wounded in separate shooting incidents in Cebu City last Monday night.

Uldarico Vergara was shot dead by an unidentified assailant while he watched his friends playing dama (a board game) inside a public market in barangay Inayawan.

Police said that although the shooting happened in a crowded area, no one come forward to shed light on the incident.

Police said the gunman shot Vergara in the head at pointblank range.   The gunman fled on foot.

Police are still investigating the motive of the killing.

In barangay Camputhaw, a 15-year-old boy was shot by a security guard who suspected him of being a thief.

The boy was brought to the Cebu City Medical Center with a gunshot wound in the head.

Police said the alleged suspect, Jupiter Libres of Nima Security Agency, fled after the shooting. They  said Libres is employed by Prime Billboards.

Police said it was Manuel Campugan, 23, stay-in driver of Prime Billboards, who saw the wounded boy slumped on a vacant lot near the billboard company Archbishop Reyes Street.

A plastic bag containing an electric drill and a carburetor was found near the area where the boy was found.

The owner of the billboard company told police that electric drill and the engine part were not owned by the company.  The case is still under investigation, said police. /CORRESPONDENT RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
