Army ‘trainee’ nabbed for illegal possession of firearm

MANILA, Philippines — Police apprehended a man in Makati City before dawn Thursday morning for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

A report from the Makati City Police said two policemen were patrolling Lanzones Street in Comembo at about 12:30 a.m. when a group of children approached and told them about a man playing with a gun down the street.

Police said Eusebio Morta, 27, threw a caliber .45 pistol to the ground when he saw the lawmen.

Morta, whom police described as an “alleged trainee” of the Army, reportedly also surrendered two gun magazines with 13 bullets when accosted by the lawmen.

He was brought to the Makati City Police Station for documentation and investigation. /cbb
