Unitec dethrones Durabend

UNITEC hoisted the trophy in the 2011 United Architects Basketball Club Corporate Cup after they dethroned the Durabend, 68-60, in the deciding Game 3 of the best-of-three finals series last Sunday at the Cebu Eastern College gym.

Unitec got the jump on the erstwhile champions as they led, 19-10, and even extended that lead to 13 markers at the halfway point of the second period behind their uptempo offense.  Durabend chipped away at the deficit and were within just two, 47-49, heading to the last period.

But Unitec simply was the better squad as their transition offense allowed them to hold on to the lead until the final buzzer. Big men Chad Go and Amed Decatoria each had 19 to pace Unitec while Durabend got 18 from Criz Matunog and 11 each from Jonathan Suico and Jay Radomes. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
