Talisay City books 2 wins in q’finals of Unity Cup volley

Talisay City collected two victories to boost its campaign in the ongoing quarterfinals of the Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup yesterday at the Cebu International Convention Center over in Mandaue City.

Talisay, already with a loaded lineup full of local stars, bolstered its depth with the addition of import Joy Cases from the Lyceum University in Manila.

They defeated Dalaguete, 25-8, 25-14 and then downed Barili, 25-18, 25-15.

Not to be outdone, reigning champion Mandaue City also registered a win yesterday as it upended Alegria, 25-13, 25-6.

Mandaue also has an import in the face of Philippine Army stalwart Joan Bunag.

Alegria bounced back from that loss and vented its ire on Borbon, 25-20, 14-25, 25-23.

Minglanilla, another top contender, had a tough outing as it suffered straight-sets loss to Catmon, 21-25, 17-25, before redeeming with a 20-25, 25-11, 25-22 win over Oslob.

Liloan, Oslob and Tuburan also got themselves in the win column. Liloan beat Tuburan, 25-9, 29-27; Oslob defeated Sogod in a three-set thriller, 25-21, 8-25, 25-23 while Tuburan got past Moalboal, 25-21, 25-14.

Sta. Fe was a no-show at the tournament and gave default wins to Barili and Dalaguete.
